About Iron Scholars
Homeschool freedom. Professional instruction. Christ at the center.
Iron Scholars began from a simple desire: to give children the benefits of homeschooling while also giving them access to the things that are hardest to build alone.
Why We Exist
What homeschool families told us they were missing
Families choose to homeschool for good reasons — flexibility, values, pace, and the ability to truly know their child. Iron Scholars was created so those reasons never have to be traded away in order to get strong, professional instruction and real community.
Iron Scholars is not simply tutoring, and it is not primarily a parent-run co-op.
During cohort days, Iron Scholars provides primary academic instruction — planned, taught, and monitored by an experienced educator. Parents remain active partners who reinforce learning at home on non-cohort days.
What our cohorts provide
- Peer community with consistent, familiar classmates
- Professional instruction from a trained educator
- Collaborative learning and shared projects
- Academic intervention where skills are unfinished
- Enrichment that goes beyond a workbook
- Real-world experiences outside the learning room
- Christ-centered formation woven through the day
Our Standard
Meet Scholars Where They Are. Don’t Leave Them There.
Individualized instruction does not mean lowered expectations. Every scholar is assessed, taught at the level of their current skill, and expected to work steadily toward grade-level proficiency. Scholars who are ready to move beyond grade level are permitted — and encouraged — to do exactly that.

Tyschell Carson
Founder & Lead Educator
About the Founder
Meet the Founder
Tyschell Carson is an experienced educator with more than a decade of experience teaching, mentoring, and supporting children and families across traditional, charter, and community-based educational settings. She holds a TK–8 Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and is additionally certified to teach English Language Arts (ELA) in grades 4–8.
Iron Scholars was born from more than Tyschell’s experience as an educator. It began with a need she experienced as a mother.
As Tyschell considered the kind of educational experience she wanted for her own children, she found herself looking for something that was difficult to find in one place. She valued the freedom and flexibility of homeschooling, but she also wanted the benefits of professional instruction, meaningful relationships with other children, hands-on learning experiences, and an educational environment where faith was not separate from learning, but foundational to it.
She wanted an environment where her children could be known, rather than simply placed into a one-size-fits-all academic model. A place where instruction could meet them where they were, challenge them to continue growing, and nurture not only what they knew, but who they were becoming.
Rather than simply continuing to search for that environment, Tyschell began building it.
Iron Scholars was created first from the heart of a mother who wanted something more intentional for her own children, and then expanded into a vision for other homeschool families looking for the same.
Tyschell’s years in education helped shape what that vision could become. Throughout her career, she has served in roles including classroom teacher, reading interventionist, lead teacher, tutor, and mentor. Those experiences reinforced her belief that children develop at different rates, bring different strengths and needs into the classroom, and thrive when educators take the time to understand the individual scholar.
That philosophy is captured in one of the central commitments of Iron Scholars:
Meet scholars where they are. Don’t leave them there.
Through Iron Scholars, Tyschell seeks to create a Christ-centered learning community where scholars receive strong, individualized academic instruction while developing confidence, resilience, character, leadership, meaningful relationships, and a genuine love of learning.
For Tyschell, Iron Scholars is both deeply personal and deeply purposeful. It is the kind of learning community she desired for her own family, opened to other families who may have been searching for it too.
